# How do I change the icon and colour of location markers on the map?

## You can customize how your locations appear on the map by updating the icon and colour for each location category.

**Changing colour and icon from settings**

- Go to **Settings**
- Click on the **Categories** tab
- You will see location categories grouped under: 
    - **Potential**
    - **Existing**
    - **Competitors**
- Find the category you want to update
- Click on **Edit**
- Upload a new **icon**
- Change the **colour** 
    - You can select from available options
    - Or enter a **HEX code** (e.g., `#000000` for black)
- Click on **Update**

**Changing colour from the right sidebar (map visualisation panel)**

- Scroll down to the **location category** section
- Find the **location category** you want to change
- Click on the **colour dot** next to it
- Choose a colour from the options 
    - OR enter a **HEX code** for a custom colour
- The map updates instantly with the new colour
