How do I run cannibalisation analysis for a new store

Cannibalisation analysis shows impact of opening a new store on existing stores.

Why should you run cannibalisation analysis?

Cannibalisation analysis helps you understand how opening a new store will impact your existing stores.

  • It shows which stores lose revenue or demand
  • It helps avoid overlapping catchments and internal competition
  • It supports better network expansion decisions

In TargomoLOOP, this is called Opening simulation.

Step 1: Add datasets with cannibalised results

Before running the simulation, you need to configure your datasets to calculate cannibalisation.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click on Custom analysis
  3. Click on Add data
  4. Select the dataset you want to use (e.g., revenue, footfall, score)
  5. Select the catchment
  6. Set the cannibalisation behaviour
    • Select “Add cannibalised results”
  7. Click Add dataset

This ensures the platform calculates how values shift when a new store is introduced.

Step 2: Run opening simulation (cannibalisation analysis)

  1. Select a potential location on the map
  2. Click on the 3 dots menu
  3. Click on Opening analysis

What you will see

  • A list of existing stores impacted by the new location
  • The change in performance (e.g., revenue drop or gain)
  • How demand is redistributed across your network
