When should I use Footfall Index, Total Footfall, and Visitor Count?

These three metrics measure foot traffic differently. Choosing the right one depends on your use case (compare vs estimate vs understand reach)

Footfall and visitors are complementary datasets:

A person counts towards footfall while they are walking and turns into a visitor once they linger for longer than 5 minutes.

Differences in usage

Footfall Index - Mainly for visualization purposes

Identify busier side of the road

See precise walking paths

Measure busyness right in front of the entrance

Absolute Footfall – Count people walking by the store

Measure how many people pass through a street

Measure many people walk through a certain entrance

Visitors – Count people staying in an area

How many people spend time in a specific place (mall, supermarket)

How many people spend time around a location in x-minute catchments

Can be interpreted as daytime population when aggregated in larger catchments
